WINTER WEATHER: Highway Conditions Alert 2-23-22 as of 5:45 a.m.
Beverly Cantrell - February 23, 2022 6:00 am
ODOT and OTA crews report slick spots developing in parts of southwestern Oklahoma and are treating highways and turnpikes as a winter storm brings freezing rain and sleet into the state. Crews in other parts of Oklahoma are prepared to begin treatments as the storm progresses. Drivers should use caution throughout the day as conditions are likely deteriorate in much of the state.
Motorists should closely follow the forecast and check current road conditions on the interactive travel map at www.okroads.org or through the free Drive Oklahoma App.
REMEMBER during snowy and icy conditions, motorists are asked to:
- Stay about 200 feet behind road clearing equipment; crews need room to maneuver and can engage plowing or spreading materials without notice.
- Allow extra space between vehicles to provide adequate distance for braking.
- Be aware of “black ice,” which looks wet on the roadway but is a thin layer of ice.
- Be patient, plan trips ahead and allow extra time in reaching destinations.
