Lincoln Elementary Shifts to Distance Learning

Ponca City Public Schools-
Attention PCPS Families:
Due to a high number of absences of teachers, support staff members and students, Lincoln Elementary will transition to Distance Learning on Friday, January 14. In addition to high numbers of COVID-related absences, many students and staff members at Lincoln are experiencing a stomach type virus, which could potentially be COVID-19. Many students and staff affected by COVID are scheduled to return to Lincoln on Tuesday, January 18. A Distance Learning Day on Friday, January 14, the weekend, and a previously scheduled Professional Development Day on Monday, January 17, will allow time for recovery and will prevent further spread of any virus.
Google Classroom will be utilized and teachers will communicate details to parents through Class Dojo. Internet hot spots and Chromebooks will be sent home with Lincoln students today.
Students at Lincoln Elementary School will return to in-person learning on Tuesday, January 18. Monday, January 17 is a pre-scheduled Professional Development Day for PCPS so NO PCPS students will be in school on January 17.
Lunch and breakfast for the next day for Lincoln Elementary students will be available for drive-thru pick up on the west side of West Middle School on Friday, January 14 from 11:00-12:30. We will also provide a lunch delivery at the basketball courts at White Eagle on Friday, January 14 from 11:00-12:00.
With Lincoln Elementary transitioning to Distance Learning and West Middle School and Po-Hi already on Distance Learning, it means three sites will be on Distance Learning through tomorrow and students of these sites will return for in-person instruction on Tuesday, January 18.
ALL other PCPS school sites will remain open this week for in-person learning. With how rapidly Omicron has spread through the district, many students and staff members are scheduled to return on Tuesday, January 18. This variant has peaked rapidly in our schools, so the Professional Development Day on Monday, January 17 will allow time for recovery. Our health care professionals believe Omicron will run its course rapidly so Distance Learning should be short lived. We do not expect periods of long-term Distance Learning or cancellation of activities with this variant, and we are hopeful we will see some return to normalcy next week. Keep up-to-date of the latest information from Ponca City Public Schools through the PCPS App, Facebook page, website, and local media outlets.
If you have questions , please call the Lincoln office at 580-767-8050 because staff not affected by COVID will be in the building during regular school hours.
Thank you for your patience and support through these turbulent times.
