EDMOND, Okla. (AP) – The University of Central Oklahoma Foundation has received a $100,000 grant from the Sarkey’s Foundation that will help pay for restoration of the university’s landmark campus building.
UCO President Don Betz says the school in Edmond is now within just $800,000 of reopening the doors of Old North. Interior restoration begins this month in the hope that the remaining $800,000 will be in place by June.
Due to structural complications, Old North closed more than 10 years ago resulting in the loss of several classrooms and the relocation of faculty and staff.
The university approached the restoration in two phases. Phase one was funded through bonds and included the needed exterior repairs and other work. Phase two includes the interior renovation and relies on private support from alumni and friends.
