OSDH Addresses COVID-19 Misinformation

The Oklahoma State Department of Health is addressing reports suggesting the CDC has a better grip on the COVID-19 situation in the state than they do.

The state health department says that more specifically, they are addressing a claim that the CDC is reporting 92% of cases in our region are Omicron.

OSDH is calling that claim inaccurate, and that the claim is a projection only, being based on CDC modeling that anticipates variant testing and future rate of spread.

The state health department continues to say that the current projection for Omicron in our region, which includes the surrounding states of Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana and New Mexico, is currently sitting at 86.7 percent.

However, that may not accurately reflect Oklahoma-specific cases.

OSDH said in a statement, “We are constantly striving to be as transparent as possible, giving Oklahomans an accurate landscape of COVID-19, so that they can make informed decisions for themselves and their loved ones.

It is frustrating when others add confusion with misinformation and uninformed opinions.”

The state health department said there have been more than 11 thousand sequencing tests done in our state.
