March 27, 2014 ~ December 21, 2021 (age 7)
Heaven gained another angel when our precious “Doodie” got his wings on the morning of December 21, 2021. Evan Howard Monhatwa was born to Jeffrey Monhatwa and Sasha Hazelwood in Ponca City on March 27, 2014. He lived all his seven years in Ponca City. He was in the second grade at Union School and made sure he wore his spirit shirt on the days called for. He loved donut Wednesday and all his teachers, especially Miss Clark. During the summer and school breaks he attended the Kanza Learning Center. He always had stories to tell Miss Georgie and Miss Tommi and learning from Taposka Storm.
The Dude never met a stranger. He would visit random people, telling them stories or showing his magic tricks whenever he had a few minutes to talk. He was such a prankster, always sneaking up on you or hiding something to scare you. He loved riding his bike and scooter. He would spend hours making things with Legos, that is what helped keep him quiet after his head injury. If you knew him, you know how active a little boy he was. He loved nerf guns and was always up for a shoot out with Dakota. All he asked for Christmas was a hover board that played music. That would have been something new he would master quickly.
He loved spending time on the river fishing with his dad. He actually pulled in a few keepers himself. They would ride their bikes around the neighborhood. Every Sunday they would be out early at the flea market. He loved the outdoors and camping, especially at the powwow.
Evan was baptized at the Ponca Indian United Methodist Church. He liked Sunday School and all the activities for the children and loved to sing. His favorite was “Jesus Loves Me”.
Evan is a member of the Kaw Nation. He entered the arena when he was four years old and loved to dance. He would tell you he was a straight dancer. He had two special ladies he always looked for and wanted to dance by, Miss Lavina and Miss Nadia.
Evan brought such joy to all who knew him. He always had a smile and was so funny. Every day was an adventure. When he was in the hospital his friend Jagger sent him a candy basket. He got on the nurse call button and announced candy party in Evan’s room. He wanted to share with all the other kids there to make them feel better. He touched many hearts on his short time with us. We know he is dancing in heaven with his mom and brother.
Doodie is survived by his father Jeff and mommie Loribeth, brothers Dominic Monhatwa, Dakota Monhatwa, and Jose Gonzalez of Ponca City. Paternal Grandparents Harvey Monhatwa of Oklahoma City and Lynn Williams, Ponca City. Maternal grandfather James Hazelwood, Ponca City. Aunts Frankie Littledeer and Rebecca Monhatwa from Newkirk, Katherine Quick from Ponca City and Nora McCartney, Oklahoma City. Uncles Sean Dole, Newkirk; Rudy Garcia, Ponca City and Stuart McCartney, Oklahoma City. He has many cousins but was particularly close to the ones his age, DJ, Jesus and Dasan Littledeer, Jamison Monhatwa and Beeba, Kylinn and Lila McCartney and his new little relative Lorielys Tirado.
