State gets humanities grants

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – The National Endowment for the Humanities has awarded almost $17,000 in grants for three humanities projects in Oklahoma.

The grants announced Monday are among $17.9 million in grants awarded for 233 humanities projects across the nation. They will support a variety of projects including research fellowships and awards for faculty, traveling exhibitions, the preservation of humanities collections at smaller institutions and training programs to prepare libraries, museums and archives to preserve and enhance access to their collections.

In Oklahoma, $5,000 was awarded to the Edmond Historical Society to develop a preservation plan for the long-term care of artifacts.

The Shawnee Tribe received $5,992 for a preservation assessment of photographs, maps and language recordings documenting the tribe’s history, language and culture.

The Stillwater Public Library received $5,998 to purchase mobile shelving.
