OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – Oklahoma City police are looking for a suspect in the assault of an elderly man who died from his injuries.

Sgt. Gary Knight said Monday 71-year-old Paul Birdsall was allegedly held hostage in his home by 40-year-old Evelyn Goldsmith between Sept. 25 and Oct. 6. Birdsall told police that Goldsmith forced him to drive to an automatic teller machine and withdraw cash for her and that Goldsmith assaulted him several times.

Birdsall called police after Goldsmith left his home, but police learned Monday that Birdsall died over the weekend due to his injuries from the incident.

Knight says warrants have been issued for Goldsmith for her arrest for robbery, domestic strangulation and other charges. Following Birdsall’s death, Knight says investigators will seek an additional warrant for Goldsmith for first-degree murder.
