Juvenile Inmates Moved From Pawnee Jail to Oklahoma County Juvenile Detention Center

In July, the Pawnee County Sheriff’s Office agreed to hold juvenile inmates while the Oklahoma County Detention Center underwent repairs.

Authorities moved 14 juvenile inmates in the custody of the Oklahoma County Detention Center from the Pawnee County Detention Center to the Oklahoma County Juvenile Detention Center.

A news release says the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office moved the juvenile detainees around 11 a.m. Monday. The inmates are now in the Oklahoma County Juvenile Bureau’s custody.

“We would like to thank the Pawnee County Jail staff for their help in housing these detainees while we worked to transition them into the custody of the Oklahoma County Juvenile Bureau,” Greg Williams, CEO of the Oklahoma County Detention Center, said in the news release. “We’d also like to thank the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office, the Oklahoma County Courts and the OCJB for their patience and guidance on this issue while the juveniles were held in Pawnee.”

In July, the Pawnee County Sheriff’s Office agreed to hold juvenile inmates while the Oklahoma County Detention Center underwent repairs in the wake of an Oklahoma State Department of Health report that deemed the jail in Oklahoma City to be unfit.

The state health department ruled that juvenile inmates couldn’t be booked at the Oklahoma County Detention Center following a surprise inspection on June 23.
