Bryan Frye, a 1994 graduate of Ponca City High School, entered an art contest when he was in junior high and won. His prize was a $100 U.S. Savings Bond. The bond was misplaced somehow and years later will find its way back to the rightful owner.
“It was a very long time ago so it was probably around 1988 or so when I entered that art contest and won,” said Frye. “The contest was to draw something patriotic and I happened to win the contest out of everyone in the area. When I got that savings bond, I put it into a folder with some of my drawings and really kinda forgot about it.”
Frye said after he graduated he was looking through that folder and realized some of his artwork and the savings bond from the contest were gone. “I’m not exactly sure if it was lost or if someone stole it, but whatever happened I’m just glad that it’s going to be returned.”
Adam Leaming, Executive Director of Operations Intern for Ponca City Public Schools, said he was going through some very old boxes and found it. “We are delighted that we could connect with Mr. Frye almost 30 years later to get his much-deserved prize back in his possession,” said Leaming.
“We strive to do the right thing at all things, and after finding Mr. Frye’s savings bond tucked away in an old dusty box I couldn’t live with myself knowing I didn’t try to find him and get this back in his possession,” said Leaming. “Our commitment to serve our Wildcats runs deep and it is an organizational goal to work with a servant’s heart.”
“It’s really pretty cool that it was finally found after all this time,” said Frye. “I’ve lost a lot of things over the years but it will be nice to get this back.”
