PERKINS, Okla. (AP) – The U.S. Geological Survey reports a magnitude 4.0 earthquake was recorded near Perkins in Payne County.
The USGS says the earthquake occurred at 9:54 p.m. Thursday about four miles northwest of Perkins. The epicenter is about five miles southwest of Stillwater and about 45 miles northeast of Oklahoma City.
No injuries or damage were reported.
The earthquake was one of 16 small quakes recorded across Oklahoma since early Thursday morning, including a magnitude 3.5 temblor near Medford and a magnitude 3.4 quake near Guthrie.
Geologists say earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 to 3.0 are generally the smallest that are felt by humans and damage is not likely from quakes below magnitude 4.0.
