Ponca City Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for 2020 Murder

NEWKIRK — Judge David Bandy sentenced Zavisu Burgess, 18, Ponca City, to life in prison after Burgess entered guilty pleas to charges of conspiracy and first-degree murder in the death of 22-year-old Shon Matthew DeLodge.

Ponca City police report that Delodge was shot in the head on January 23, 2020, at a residence in the 1200 block of N. Oak.

Two felony charges of conspiracy and first-degree burglary were also filed against Burgess but were dismissed on Aug. 31, 2020.

Burgess, Triston Pappan, 22,  and two juveniles were arrested in the case. Pappan was acquitted of murder and conspiracy charges by a jury on Jan. 29, 2021.
