LAFAYETTE, Louisiana – News 9
More than a dozen people from Oklahoma and Kansas are volunteering with the Red Cross as Ida continues to slam into parts of the Gulf Coast. Many of the volunteers from the region are set up at different evacuation centers around Louisiana.
A spokesperson for the Red Cross said some of the volunteers staged in Louisiana are from Oklahoma City and Eufaula. Some volunteers were sent to Houston in case the storm’s path shifted.
Inside shelters, organizers are working to distance people the best they can. Masks are required for people 2 years and older.
“We have teams that are in those evacuation centers for people who have come in ahead of the storm or may be coming in right now as the storms rolling in,” said Brittney Rochell, with the Red Cross. “We have team members who are ready to go as soon as it’s safe for us to get out and just help those in need.”
The Red Cross said more volunteers are needed. For more information, click here.
