Dorwin Lumly
December 17, 1954 – August 16, 2021
Dorwin Dee Lumly of Blackwell, Oklahoma has returned to our Lord. He was found in his home on August 16th at the age of 66.
Dorwin attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School from kindergarten through 6th grade, then to Blackwell Junior High and High School, graduating in 1973. He participated in numerous sports programs including Little League and most summer days were spent at the public swimming pool. Later he joined the BHS Wresting team. In 1977 he enrolled at the Rhema Bible Academy in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, graduating in 1978 after a one-year intensive course of study. Dorwin lived his faith in every aspect of his life. He was a true bible scholar who never stopped searching the depths of the bible for more wisdom. He served as guest minister at numerous churches over the years. Dorwin ran his own successful business known as Lumly Painting and Remodeling for decades. Even in his business practices, he expressed his faith in his work, his conscientiousness, and generosity of service. There are many stories of Dorwin waiving payment for those unable to pay for the repairs they needed, especially if they had children. No matter where he went, if he encountered someone needing a helping hand, he generously offered his support in any way he could. He had a very big heart, especially for children. He routinely accepted donations of broken toys and bicycles to repair them to give to any child without. He even set up a large trampoline in his yard and personally invited all the kids in the neighborhood to enjoy it. Dorwin literally served his community any way he could.
Dorwin is survived by his sister, Coleen Lumly and nephew Joe Schwemin, both of Oklahoma City, his stepfather James McBride and aunt Jeannie Lumly Wynn, both of Blackwell, including numerous cousins and adopted family from his church and bible study groups.
He was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents, Art and Stella Craft and Jesse and Viola Lumly, also of Blackwell, both parents Gerald W. and Jessie F. Lumly, as well as siblings Corwin, Darwin and Lorwin.
A memorial service will be held at the pavilion at the Blackwell Cemetery at 2 pm Saturday, October 30th. Honorary pallbearers are Mike Wynn, Raymond Rector, Doyle Steffens, Gary Tucker, Ron Clark, John Webb, Steve Kemp, Doug Bathurst, Lowell Jeffries, and Mark Springs.
