Deanna K. Hanly, 83, a longtime resident of Ponca City, passed away Sunday, August 8, 2021 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Her funeral service will be 10:30 AM Thursday, August 12 at East Side Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls. Visitation begins at 5:00 PM Wednesday, August 11 at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory, Sioux Falls, where the family will greet friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A second visitation will be held 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, August 13 at Trout Funeral Home in Ponca City, OK. Private burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park in Ponca City, OK.
Deanna Kay (Brooks) Hanly, daughter of Roy and Jean (Anderson) Brooks, was born August 3, 1938 in Sioux Falls, SD. She attended school in Sioux Falls and graduated from Washington High School. Deanna then began working for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Sioux Falls.
After three years, Deanna was transferred to Southwestern Bell in Kansas City, MO. While in Kansas City, she met Theodore “Tedd” Hanly on a blind date. Deanna and Tedd were united in marriage on August 1, 1959 in Sioux Falls, SD. They were blessed with two sons and five grandchildren, who she loved dearly.
While living in Ponca City, OK, Deanna worked as an accounting clerk for Conoco for 13 years. She retired in 1993 to be a caregiver for her husband, Tedd.
Deanna loved to travel. She visited Europe, Tennessee, Texas and Branson, MO in addition to many trips to South Dakota. While living in Ponca City, she belonged to First Lutheran Church, where she was active in women’s Bible study, women’s guild and quilt guild. She also lived for a time at Willow Creek Villas Senior Living in Ponca City, where she was involved in Bible study, planning activities, luncheons and games.
Deanna returned to Sioux Falls in 2014 and lived at Washington Crossing, which she loved. In 2016, she moved in with her sister, Jackie and her husband, Earl. They were wonderful caregivers! The family enjoyed playing cards with Deanna, especially Hand and Foot. In addition, they loved taking her to basketball games, football games and gymnastics competitions to cheer on her great-nieces and nephews.
Grateful for having shared her life are two sons, Theodore “Tedd” Hunter Hanly II and his wife, Lesa, Princess Ann, MD, Donovan Roy Hanly and his wife, Lori, Barnsdall, OK; five grandchildren, Taylar Clayton and her husband, Andrew, Norfolk, VA, Beau Hanly, Chicago, IL, Dava Hanly, Erin Hanly and Cody Hanly, all of Barnsdall, OK; five siblings, Jackie Brown and her husband, Earl, Sioux Falls, SD, Loretta Silcott, Sioux Falls, SD, Lee Brooks and his wife, Dede, Sioux Falls, SD, Nancy Peterson and her husband, Lonnie, Sioux Falls, SD, Terry Brooks and his wife, Delores, Harrisburg, SD; and many other relatives and friends.
Deanna was preceded in death by her husband, Tedd, on September 13, 2005 and her parents.
Deanna requested that memorial donations be directed to First Lutheran Church and School, 1101 N. 4th St., Ponca City, OK 74601. Local arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory, 505 W. Grand Ave., Ponca City, OK 74601
