OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum says he won’t re-issue a mask mandate for the city, despite a surge in COVID-19 cases. Bynum said on Friday that the rise in virus cases and hospitalizations is due to unvaccinated people.
Dr. Anuj Malik, the infectious disease medical director at Ascension St. John hospital, says that of the 21 COVID patients in St. John’s intensive care unit this week, 20 weren’t vaccinated and the other was only partially vaccinated.
The Oklahoma State Department of Health reported 2,303 new virus cases and 965 hospitalizations on Friday. Health officials say more than 90% of people hospitalized aren’t vaccinated.
