OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma health officials are urging more residents to get vaccinated amid an alarming spike in new cases and hospitalizations for COVID-19. Officials with the Oklahoma State Department of Health said on Friday that the biggest area of concern is northeast Oklahoma, where cases are rising steadily.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Friday that an outbreak in April and May at a central Oklahoma gymnastics facility infected at least 47 people. Health officials didn’t publicly identify the facility.

According to data from Johns Hopkins University, Oklahoma currently ranks 11th in the nation for most new cases per capita over the last two weeks.
