Roof Projects at East and West Middle Schools

Construction projects this summer for Ponca City Public Schools includes two roofing projects at East and West Middle Schools.

Bret Smith, Executive Director of Operations for PCPS, said these two projects were previously approved by the insurance company to be redone but never got on the schedule. “We had money left from the additional emergency reroof project that we did at all three secondary schools so we put both projects out to bid,” said Smith. “The money is still there for us to use.”

Smith said the wrestling room addition at East Middle School, which was built back in 1974, was beginning to leak. “They are finishing up some work now but it’s about 98 percent finished.”

“West Middle School was the same scenario,” said Smith. “The lower roof over the band room and a couple of classrooms and a hallway on the east side of West needed repairs. That project is starting either this week or next as they are trying to finish up at East.”

American Roofing in Ponca City was the low bidder on both projects. The cost for East Middle School was $123,547.55 while the cost at West Middle School was $226,528.20.

The project, according to Smith, should be finished by the time school starts in August.
