Strychalski also accused of aggravated battery, criminal threat, fleeing scene

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. (June 18, 2021) — The Arkansas City Police Department responded to a call today involving an Arkansas City man who was considered an armed and dangerous suspect.

Christopher Logan Strychalski, 29, of Arkansas City, later was arrested in Oklahoma on suspicion of aggravated battery, criminal threat and discharge of a firearm into an occupied residence.

On Friday, an Arkansas City woman came to the Arkansas City Police Department to report an incident of domestic violence that resulted in her allegedly being strangled and beaten.

While this report was being made, another resident called in a suspicious person at a residence where the female victim had family residing. This neighbor reported that a suspicious male suspect had discharged a rifle that he was carrying. A rifle bullet casing later was recovered at the scene.

The suspect, later identified as Strychalski, then approached the residence and took up a position nearby. At that time, police were already driving toward the residence with emergency lights and sirens.

Neighbors reported Strychalski fled on foot after hearing the sirens toward a parked white Ford Mustang and began to leave the area in the vehicle just as police were starting to arrive at the scene.

An officer ordered Strychalski to pull the vehicle over but he instead swerved around the officer, accelerated rapidly and fled the area in an eastbound direction.

Strychalski was thought to be heading to Ponca City, Oklahoma, where local authorities were alerted to await his arrival. He was taken into custody without incident and is detained in Kay County.

The residents of the home where the incident occurred were contacted and all was found to be well.

A defendant’s guilt or innocence is to be determined by a court of law.
