John Nelson

October 28, 1947 – May 10, 2021

Johnny Ray Nelson, resident of Watonga, OK, passed away Monday, May 10, 2021. He was 73. Graveside service will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Lamont, OK. There will be no viewing. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory, 505 W Grand Ave, Ponca City, OK 74601.

John “JR” Nelson was born in Blackwell, Oklahoma on October 28, 1947 to Ray Jonas and Norma Simmons Nelson. Growing up, he attended several elementary schools in Kay County. JR attended Ponca City High School before joining the Navy in 1969 and he spent two years of active duty in Vietnam.

He Married Judy Dillard on December 31, 1967 and had one daughter, Tricia Renee’ Nelson.

JR drove trucks cross country for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter, Kattie Miller.

He is survived by his daughter, Tricia Ledbetter; sister, Sarah Standeford; brothers, Jim, Ronny, and Larry Nelson; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
