Grand jury: Lack of transparency delaying Epic school probe

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma’s multicounty grand jury says that a lack of transparency by Epic Charter Schools is delaying an investigation into the online school.

The multicounty grand jury issued an interim report on Thursday that says its investigation is ongoing. However, the report says inadequate transparency with public funds and a lack of cooperation by some employees is delaying the probe.

Fueled by skyrocketing enrollment during the pandemic, Epic Charter Schools has become the largest district in the state, with more than 60,000 students.

From 2015 to 2020, the school received more than $458 million in state and federal funds.
