OKLAHOMA CITY – Bipartisan legislation to help disadvantaged children passed the House on Wednesday with overwhelming support.

Senate Bill 236, authored by Rep. Jacob Rosecrants, D-Norman and Sen. Rob Standridge, R-Norman, provides a sales tax exemption for sales of clothing to an Oklahoma chapter of a national nonprofit that distributes clothing to disadvantaged children through the philanthropic program called Operation School Bell.

“This is the most ‘helping kids’ bill you could dream up,” Rosecrants said. “The Assistance League and Operation School Bell do a great job providing clothing for disadvantaged children and have been doing so for the past 45 years.”

Standridge ushered the legislation through the Senate and echoed Rosecrants’ admiration for the program.

“I commend the Assistance League and Operation School Bell for the great work they do for many disadvantaged children in communities around Oklahoma,” Standridge said.

SB236 is now available to be signed into law by the governor.
