Fugate Wants Lawmakers Held Accountable for False Testimony

OKLAHOMA CITY – Rep. Andy Fugate, D-Del City, released the following statement today in response to the House passing Senate Bill 585.
SB585 allows the Legislature to terminate the employment of certain elected or appointed officials for willful neglect or that lie or present false testimony to a committee in either body of the Legislature.
Fugate offered an unsuccessful amendment that would hold lawmakers to these same standards.
“Today, the House considered a bill to allow for the removal of elected officials for willful neglect or lying to the Legislature. I offered an amendment to apply the same rules for job performance, truthfulness and removal to members of the Legislature.
“Sadly, once again, the Legislature told Oklahomans the laws we write don’t apply to us. It is outrageous that we continue to tell taxpayers ‘do as I say, not as I do.’”
