Members of Legislative Black Caucus React to Chauvin Verdict

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Legislative Black Caucus chair and vice-chair released statements today after Derek Chauvin was convicted for murdering George Floyd.

Black Caucus Chair Rep. Regina Goodwin, D-Tulsa:

“Our prayers are with the Floyd family tonight,” Goodwin said. “The verdict of Derek Chauvin allows us all to breathe a bit better, which because of the actions of Chauvin, George Floyd can’t do. For the damage caused, the charges filed against Chauvin fell short, and while we applaud the progress of the verdict, the sentencing process will speak even more to how justice is served.”

Black Caucus Vice-Chair Rep. Jason Lowe, D-OKC:

“George Floyd didn’t deserve to die,” Lowe said. “This verdict, unlike so many before it, saw our justice system value the life of an unarmed black man. When Chauvin is sentenced, we will see how much value. I lift up the Floyd family tonight, and I hope that with this verdict they can find some peace in what I am sure has been a horrific experience.”
