While snow flurries are falling across much of the state this morning, Oklahoma Department of Transportation crews are reporting mostly dry highway conditions with some slick spots.

Areas of impact include SH-99 in Lincoln County and SH-62 in Lincoln and Okfuskee counties in central Oklahoma. Additional counties with slick spots include Cherokee, McIntosh, Muskogee, Okmulgee and Wagoner counties in eastern Oklahoma, however, the eastern portion of I-40 remains clear and dry.

I-35 is clear and dry at this time with some limited snow accumulation along the shoulders in Kay County in northern Oklahoma. The I-44 corridor is also clear at this time, while the US-69 corridor is seeing some traffic delays near Eufaula in McIntosh County.

ODOT crews have plenty of salt and sand supplies on hand to continue meeting highway safety needs across the state and workers statewide are preparing for the next round of winter weather predicted for this weekend. Drivers should begin to plan ahead for a major snowfall event occurring this weekend through much of next week. Those who can delay travel during the holiday weekend are encouraged to do so.

REMEMBER during snowy and icy conditions, motorists are asked to:

• Stay about 200 feet behind road clearing equipment; crews need room to maneuver and can engage plowing or spreading materials without notice.
• Allow extra space between vehicles to provide adequate distance for braking.
• Be aware of “black ice,” which looks wet on the roadway but is a thin layer of ice.
• Be patient, plan trips ahead and allow extra time in reaching destinations.
