Ark City Fire-EMS responds to three weekend structure fires

Four total buildings damaged in Geuda Springs, Ark City, IXL, totaling $40K+

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. (February 8, 2021) — The Arkansas City Fire-EMS Department responded to three separate structure fires last weekend, in three different communities, with four buildings damaged.

In the first incident, ACFD was dispatched at 2:50 a.m. Saturday to 808 Third St. in Geuda Springs to provide mutual aid for a possible structure fire. The fire was found in the kitchen, with heat damage in the living room and smoke damage throughout the entire house. An interior attack was made and the fire was extinguished. The fire was brought under control at 4:18 a.m. and the call was completed at 7:29 a.m. ACFD assisted Sumner County Fire District 11 and the South Haven Fire Department on this fire.

In the second incident, ACFD was dispatched at 12:50 a.m. Sunday to 203 N. Seventh St. in Arkansas City for a possible structure fire. Crews found a large fire and began their attack. After the home’s roof collapsed, crews began exterior operations. The fire was extinguished and the call completed at 5:06 a.m. with the assistance of the Winfield Fire-EMS Department. The loss of structure and contents is estimated at $30,000. The cause of this structure fire remains under investigation.

In the third and final incident, ACFD was dispatched at 3:35 a.m. today (Monday) to 32555 Tower Road, south of Arkansas City, for a report of a possible structure fire. Crews found two vacant mobile homes fully involved. The fire was brought under control by 4:20 a.m. and the call was completed at 7:29 a.m. The Udall Fire Department was dispatched to assist, but later asked to disregard, while the Winfield Fire-EMS Department arrived at the scene, but was not needed and returned to Winfield. The loss of structure and contents is estimated at $10,000. The cause of this fire also remains under investigation.
