State COVID-19 hospitalizations remain near record high

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma has reported more than 1,000 new COVID-19 cases, as hospitalizations from the disease caused by the novel coronavirus remained near their all-time high in the state.

Oklahoma health officials say there were 1,083 new confirmed cases of the virus and another 38 fatalities on Friday. The Oklahoma State Department of Health says there were 1,910 people hospitalized with the virus in Oklahoma on New Year’s Day. The state’s record was set on Monday when there were 1,927 people with the virus in Oklahoma hospitals.

The state health department has delayed reporting case counts over the holiday weekend.
