Commissioners Request Ordinance Draft for Mask Mandate

Mike Seals - December 7, 2020 3:05 pm

At today’s Board of Commissioner’s work session, the commissioners requested City Attorney John Andrews and City Manager Craig Stephenson to provide the board with a draft ordinance for consideration regarding the institution of a mask mandate for the City of Ponca City.

The basis for the ordinance is the significant increase in positive Coronavirus cases in Kay County over the last few weeks.

Under the ordinance, anyone in a place of business that refused to wear a mask could be initially warned on a trespassing violation, and eventually cited for trespassing if they refused to wear a mask and/or leave the business and the business owner registered a complaint against the individual.

The proposed ordinance will be added to the agenda for the next Board of Commissioners meeting, which is scheduled for the 14th of December in the Commissioner’s Chambers at City Hall, 516 East Grand Avenue.
