OKLAHOMA CITY – With deer gun season starting this weekend, Sen. Frank Simpson, R-Springer, wants to remind Oklahoma’s veterans about the Stars and Stripes License Project.

“This is a wonderful program by the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation that offers hunting and fishing licenses to military veterans and to the surviving spouses or children of veterans who laid down their lives for our country,” Simpson said. “Oklahoma is proud to be home for thousands of military veterans. The project allows the public to purchase licenses to give to these brave men and women as a small thank you for their service and sacrifice.”

The Stars and Stripes License Project is available for resident military veterans, Gold Star Lapel recipients, and the next of kin of deceased veterans. Two licenses are available including the annual Combination Hunting/Fishing license and the 60% of more Disabled Veterans Lifetime Combination Hunting/Fishing license.

“This deer season let’s show our veterans how much we care by buying their license and inviting them out for some hunting or fishing in Oklahoma’s beautiful outdoors,” Simpson said. “We want Oklahoma’s veterans to know that their service and sacrifice will never be overlooked or forgotten.”

The Oklahoma Wildlife Department receives no state appropriated funds, so the project also helps maintain revenue to support wildlife conservation in the state.

Simpson is the Chair of the Senate Veterans and Military Affairs Committee and a retired Navy veteran.
