Record coronavirus hospitalizations reported in Oklahoma

The Associated Press - October 17, 2020 12:10 pm

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma health officials report that the number of hospitalizations is again at a record high for people either with the coronavirus or under investigation for infection.

The Oklahoma State Department of Health on Friday reported 793 people hospitalized as hospitalizations have increased since first surpassing 700 on October 7th. The department reported 1,472 new cases and 11 more deaths to bring the totals since the pandemic began to 105,308 reported cases and 1,154 dead due to COVID-19, the illness caused by the virus.

The true number of coronavirus cases is likely higher because many people have not been tested, and studies indicate that people can be infected and spread the virus while not feeling sick.
