PCPS Announces Wildcat of the Week: Andrew Rogers

The Heather Cannon Wildcat of the Week for Week #3 for the 2020-2021 School Year is Po-Hi Senior, Andrew Rogers. Superintendent Shelley Arrott said, “The Wildcat of the Week for Week #3 is another member of the Big Blue Band and Captain of the 2020-2021 drumline, Andrew Rogers.

Andrew represents the characteristics of the Wildcat Way in a multitude of ways. His work ethic is unmatched! Even though he is a talented drummer, he pushes himself to develop his talents every single day. He is coachable, reliable, smart, communicates well with students and staff, and is dedicated to improving not only his own skills, but is instrumental in improving the band as a team.

He is super positive, funny, and makes the extra effort to make each day better for everyone he encounters. His band directors tell me that he looks out for everyone. If he senses his peers are having a bad day, Andrew intervenes himself and reaches out to his directors or teachers to seek help or support for anyone in need.

These traits make Andrew a very special person, but what impresses me most about Andrew is the way he treats other people. He is kind, compassionate, friendly, and goes out of his way to speak to everyone. Andrew looks people in the eye when he speaks to them and it is always a pleasure to visit with him.

He is just that person who you instantly meet and feel like you have known forever. Andrew is trusted by his peers and teachers and never fails to keep his word and do what is asked of him. The entire band can count on his leadership!

“Andrew, back in the good old days when we could travel, I had the opportunity to see many drumlines perform at conferences, events, or even other schools I have visited. Superintendents like to show off their talented students and many ask their drumlines to perform for guests. I will have to say, I have seen some great drumlines in Oklahoma high schools, but none as talented as ours! You set the bar high as captain of our drumline this year, and I know your directors are proud of the way your leadership influences the Big Blue.”

“More importantly, thank you for treating others with respect and kindness and for always having a positive attitude. We all can control the way we respond to things we cannot control, and you, Andrew, are a master of turning any situation into something positive. This has been a challenging year for everyone, but you have very maturely stepped up to make the best of it and help your friends, classmates, and teachers through these tough times. I am so proud of you for demonstrating compassion to everyone, not just your friends.”

“You represent the Ponca City Wildcats with dignity and class. It was an honor to attend band practice this morning and surprise you with the Wildcat of the Week Award! We are all so proud of you, and I know great things are in your future!”

The Wildcat of the Week receives a Wildcat of the Week T-shirt, a Wildcat window sticker, and a coupon for a delicious burger basket from Ground Round. The award is sponsored by TEAM Radio, Heather Cannon Honda, Tyndall Family Dentistry, Ground Round, and Legacy Signs. The award is open to ANY Ponca City High School student. TEAM Radio makes the final selections and coordinates with school officials for presentations.
