OSBI Crime Scene Agents Earn Rigorous Certification

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) is pleased to announce that eight crime scene agents recently passed the International Association for Identification (IAI) Crime Scene certification. The process to earn this certification is difficult and requires crime scene experience, IAI crime scene board-approved education, as well as passing a demanding test.

The certification tests an OSBI crime scene agent’s ability to apply scientific methods, techniques and knowledge as it applies to the law, as well as the intricacies required to examine, collect and preserve physical evidence at a crime scene.

“As the state’s premier investigative agency, it is imperative that our crime scene agents are experts in their field,” said OSBI Director Ricky Adams. “They are equipped with the most state-of-the-art technology, and the IAI certification only adds to their capabilities. It is important to me that when our requestors reach out for assistance, we provide them with the very best resources to include crime scene agents with a comprehensive knowledge in forensics as demonstrated by this certification.”

Most recently, eight crime scene agents sat for the certification test, which ranges between 200 and 400 questions depending on the certification level being tested. Of the eight, two are Senior Crime Scene Analysts, two are Crime Scene Analysts and four are Certified Crime Scene Investigators. In addition to the active crime scene agents, the OSBI has seven other agents who have maintained their IAI Certification.

More than 50% of the investigators in the state of Oklahoma with IAI Crime Scene certification are employed by the OSBI, and two of the three Senior Crime Scene Analysts in Oklahoma are OSBI agents.

Any law enforcement agency in Oklahoma can request OSBI crime scene assistance even if the agency does not need the full resources of the Bureau.
