OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – Three Oklahoma death-row inmates have execution dates set even as state officials investigate what went wrong with a botched execution in April.
Charles Frederick Warner, Richard Eugene Glossip and John Marion Grant are scheduled to die by lethal injection within a four-week period later this year despite a federal lawsuit they and 18 other death row inmates filed that challenges the way the state plans to execute them.
Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt says his office wants to make sure punishments handed down by a jury are carried out – but he says there will be no executions until an investigation into the botched execution of Clayton Lockett is complete.
Attorneys for the inmates it’s not prudent to schedule executions with so much uncertainty about the protocols to be used.
