Roy was born on March 13, 1935 to Lewis Clifton Gentry and Mattie Mary (Plummer) Gentry in Hardy, OK. As a young child, his family moved to rural Arkansas City. Roy attended Stony Point rural elementary school, and later attended Arkansas City High School. While in high school, Roy joined the U.S. Army at the age of 17, served as a paratrooper in the Army Airborne and was honorably discharged. After serving his country, California called him to the coast and Roy worked for the Santa Fe railroad. His heart was in the midwest, returning to Arkansas City. While in Ark City, he met Patricia Ann Barger Weathers. They were married on June 7, 1963 in Winfield, KS, having now celebrated 57 years of marriage. The couple made Arkansas City their home for two years before moving to Salisbury, MD where Roy was trained as boilermaker. For the following seven years, Roy worked in numerous states along the east coast. The family moved to Newkirk in 1972. While in Newkirk, Roy joined the local Pipefitter’s Union; working for different contractors on petroleum infrastructure in the area. In the early 1980’s, Roy found a business partner and started ICF, where he continued as a Pipefitter and served the local area as he had been doing. After retiring in 1997, he and Pat enjoyed spending the winters in south Texas. At age 62, Roy found a passion in the game of golf. He played every chance he could, almost daily while they were in south Texas. When he could no longer golf, Roy found joy serving the elderly by bringing them food and sharing in fellowship. However the most important things to Roy were his beloved family and his relationship with his savior. Roy found Jesus Christ in 1975 and was honored to be anointed as a Deacon in the First Baptist Church in 2000.
Survivors include his beloved wife Patricia Ann Gentry of the home, children: Cheri Dunn of Peckham, Randy Weathers of Newkirk, OK, siblings: Joyce Eagan and husband Lowell, Bill Gentry and wife Carolyn, Linda Litton and husband Dale, all of Arkansas City, KS; grandchildren: Chelsi Green, Lorre Dunn, Lyndsey Adams, Maya Gentry, Ethan Gentry, Allegra Myers, Braden Lepore, Rayce Lepore, and 9 great grandchildren.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: David Gentry and Dolores Hough as well as his children Michelle Gentry and Clint Gentry.
