Kay County Alumni groups reorganizes

The wheat is waving in Ponca City with the newly reorganized Kay County Oklahoma State University Alumni Association. Allison Brown, the association’s communications and social chair said the chapter has been dormant for about five years. The chapter is coming back to life this Thursday though, at the Osage hotel’s banquet room.

“We’re doing a kickoff party Aug. 7 at 6:30 p.m.,the doors will open at Osage Casino," Brown said. "And we’re going to have some hors d’oeuvres and a program from John Smith who is the head wrestling coach, Chris Young the head tennis coach and Chris Batchelder the president and CEO of the Alumni Association are going give us a little program and then do a Q&A.”

Larry Reece, the Voice of the Cowboys and Pistol Pete will also be there! It’s $12 if you pre-register online or it’s $15 at the door. Kids six and under are free. Brown said this event is not just for alumni, it’s for all OSU lovers in Kay County. There will also be a cash bar and T-shirts for sale to raise money for Kay County student scholarships.

Brown said interest dwindled previously, despite the more than a thousand alumni in Kay County. But the Kay County Alumni Association board is already brainstorming on how to not let that happen again.

“ We’re going to do some watch parties during football seasons and I am sure more throughout the year, but for now this is what we have planned,” Brown said.

Brown also said if you want to help plan these events or be on the board all you have to do is volunteer.
