Tribal courts toss out OK senate candidate’s termination suit

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Native American tribal courts have dismissed a wrongful termination lawsuit filed by an Oklahoma Senate candidate who accused a tribe’s leader of firing him because he opposed a local mask mandate.

Shane Jett was terminated on August 10th as CEO of Community Development Corporations for the Citizen Potawatomi Nation. He is a former Republican legislator and currently in a run-off race for a state Senate seat. He filed a lawsuit alleging that tribe chairman Chairman John “Rocky” Barrett fired him because he opposed a mask ordinance at a city commission meeting.

The Oklahoman reported on Friday that tribal courts denied Jett’s request. Barrett has denied the allegations.
