Firefighters are firing up the grills for benefit cook-off

Firefighters are firing up the grills for the benefit cook-off, All Fired Up. All three shifts will cook up their best steak Saturday night. David VanBuskirk, former Ponca City Fire Marshall said the benefit is for the Fire and Life Safety Council and the Ponca City Fire Foundation.

“We started this four years ago, I believe,” VanBuskirk said. “This was in an effort to raise funds to support the fire department to purchase equipment that they may not be able to purchase in their budget. The fundraiser started growing and now we’re up to a pretty good chuck of money in there and we’ve kind of changed directions, now we’re waiting to raise enough money so we can go in and support a fire training tower for the fire department. That’s kind of our ultimate goal of what we’re going to do with the funds.”

Along with a full ribeye steak dinner, there will also be a silent auction and Band #9 will be playing. The steak cooking starts at 6 and dinner is expected to be served at 7 on the Marland Mansion grounds. VanBuskirk said to act now if you want tickets.

“We do have a limited amount of tickets and tickets are going fast right here at the last, so if you don’t have your ticket be sure and get it ahead of time,” VanBuskirk said. “If there are tickets still available you can purchase them at the door, but there’s no guarantee that will be any left because there is a set amount we’re going to purchase.”

Tickets are available at the Chamber of Commerce or at Rainmakers Sprinkler Company at 2100 Lake Road.
