Chamber of Commerce host Stuff the Bus

In less than a month students will be filling up buses, but first the Chamber of Commerce is filling buses with school supplies. Sue Lunsford, Chamber Education Workforce committee chairman said they are bringing back Stuff the Bus for the second year.

" We have the bus stationed at four different locations this year and people bring supplies by," Lunsford said. "Then we take them to the school administration office, they’re stored there. When a teacher finds a student who is in need of a certain supply or supplies the teacher will contact her principal, the principal will then contact the Board of Education School Administration office and get those supplies and see that that student gets them."

Before last year teachers were using money out of their pocket to buy supplies. And Lunsford said one student’s supplies can cost nearly $100. To make sure teachers don’t have to do that the bus will be making it rounds starting tomorrow.

“On Thursday, July 31 from nine to 12 we’re going to be at Southwest Business Products, that’s at 401 S. 1st," Lunsford said. "On Thursday, July 31, same day from 12 to three we’ll be at Merrifield Office Supply on Grand. Then Friday, Aug. 1 we’ll do nine to three at Staples and then on Saturday, Aug. 2 from nine to three we’ll do Walmart."

The Chamber of Commerce has a list of the most needed supplies. Lunsford said some items she remembers being on high demand last year were Kleenex’s, hand sanitizer and thumb drives. As well as the basics, no. 2 pencils, folders and notebook paper. Although, those are suggested the Chamber will accept anything, even cash. The cash will be used to buy whatever supplies they are lacking at the end of the event.
