George Bruce
November 11, 1931 – July 25, 2020
Former long time resident of Ponca City, George Philemon Bruce, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2020 following an extended illness.
A graveside ceremony will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at 2pm at Longwood Cemetery. Arrangements are made under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.
George was born on November 11, 1931 to Denver and Mable (Baker) Bruce in Kaw City, OK. He graduated from Newkirk High School in 1949 and worked local jobs until his enlistment. George was very happy to celebrate his birthday in conjunction with Veteran’s Day and proudly served his country in the US Army from April 1953 through April 1955. He met his lifetime partner before joining the Army and married her shortly after his honorable release from service. George P. Bruce and Naomi Jean Guinn were married on February 17, 1956 in Enid, OK. Together they had one son, Gary W. Bruce. George worked until his retirement from ONG where he was employed for over 30 years. His retirement years were filled with traveling RV style, camping and fishing. He and Jean were members of the RoadRunners RV club and spent many hours on the golf course enjoying friends. When they were home, he enjoyed entertaining his grandchildren, Heath Lawson and Kati Abney with fireworks and boat rides.
George was a member of the Sunset Baptist Church and enjoyed their many trips to Branson and weekly fellowship.
George is survived by on son, two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild of Shawnee, OK. He is also survived by one brother, JT of Lake Charles, LA and many friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Denver and Mable, wife, Jean, brothers, Donald, Melvin, Stanley, Herbert and Lyle, and two sisters, Verle and Gladys.
