Medicaid Expansion a “Historic Moment” says Minority Leader

OKLAHOMA CITY — House Minority Leader Emily Virgin, D-Norman, today released the following statement in response to Medicaid expansion being voted into law by Oklahomans through a ballot initiative Tuesday. The measure passed with just more than 50% of the vote.

“After eight years of Republicans putting politics ahead of human life, thousands of working Oklahomans will finally have access to decent health insurance.

“Like medical marijuana and criminal justice reform before that, Medicaid expansion now joins a growing list of initiatives citizens have used to bypass the Republican-controlled Legislature and create policy that is fair, reasonable and in the best interest of the many instead of the few.

“I stand and applaud the Oklahomans who fought for this historic moment in our state. There will be lives forever changed for the better because of the hard work of these volunteers and advocates.”
