Phillips 66 ST Math Teacher of the Year

Rudonna Bailey, a fourth grade teacher at Trout Elementary, has been selected as the Phillips 66 ST Math teacher of the year for the Ponca City Public Schools.

Rudonna is a ten-year veteran teacher. She had this to say about ST Math, “I love ST Math because it provides students with a different way to look at what they’re learning. If there is a skill they are struggling with, ST Math is a puzzle piece for them that really helps bring it all together. It helps students make a connection and sense of math concepts.  It ultimately helps students become problem solvers.”

ST Math is a visual math program that builds a deep conceptual understanding of math through rigorous learning and creative problem solving. Phillips 66 has graciously purchased ST Math licenses for the students of the PCPS district for the last three years. In ST Math, the games and puzzles start off simple and become more challenging as the student progresses through standards. ST Math is a completely visual program, there is no audio within the platform. Students must watch JiJi (the programs mascot pictured above) to figure out how to solve the problem. When students figure out the problem or puzzle correctly, JiJi walks across the screen. If they are incorrect, JiJi doesn’t progress across the screen. This program focuses on promoting problem solving, productive struggle, and developing number sense and math competency. Congratulations Rudonna!
