Severe Weather, Hail, May Be Coming

Mike Seals - April 27, 2020 10:39 pm

Paula Cain, Ponca City Emergency Management Director, has issued the following weather advisory:

On Tuesday (28 April) we have a more legitimate chance for some severe weather. By that I mean we will be in an Enhanced Risk area, so more storms are possible.  Thunderstorms are expected to develop across northern Oklahoma by mid-afternoon. They will build to the southwest along the cold front. At some point they will likely form a squall line as they move south. As you know squall lines have increased wind impact and can result in a lot of wind damage, but this will probably occur well south of us.

In northern Oklahoma our risks will include severe thunderstorms with dangerous lightning, & could produce very large hail up to baseball size & damaging wind gusts 70-80 mph. It would be a good idea if you secure outdoor furnishings this evening as the storms will move through before the end of the workday. Tornado chances remain very low. Rainfall up to ½’ possible & the high temperature is forecast to be around 83˚ so conditions will be sultry.

Be safe!
