Oklahoma coronavirus death toll rises to 96

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Officials in Oklahoma say 96 people have died because of the coronavirus. Around 1,900 people have tested positive for COVID-19. Around 450 of those have needed to go to the hospital.

Gov. Kevin Stitt said at a news conference on Friday that the state has enough available hospital beds, intensive-care unit beds, and ventilators to handle a surge in COVID-19 hospitalizations.

For most people, the coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. Some carriers have no symptoms at all, but can still spread the virus. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia.
