Local resident receives suspicious call

Ponca City Now - June 19, 2014 8:35 am

A local resident recently received a suspicious call and wants to warn others. The resident told the police department that the caller said she was the winner of a $100 Wal-mart gift card. The caller said that they would mail her some advertising brochures, which she would be required to fill out before receiving the card. The resident thought the plan sounded good until the caller said there was a minimal fee and asked for her credit card information. As soon as the resident declined giving out her information the caller hung up.

"This resident is not a victim, thankfully," said Deputy Chief, Anthony Rogers. "She was wise not to give any personal information to a telephone solicitor."
