Summerfest brings free entertainment to Kay county

Bring the kids out to enjoy the rides or bring your significant other out that evening for live music. Whatever it is, Summerfest in Blackwell has it at a competitive price, said John Robertson, Blackwell Chamber of Commerce executive director.

“Summerfest is a second annual celebration here in Blackwell," Robertson said. "We’re going to have a carnival, vendor booths, free entertainment on Thursday, Friday and Saturday night.”

The only thing that cost is the rides, but wristbands are available. Also, don’t miss the Thunder girls Friday and Saturday and a free petting zoo all weekend. In addition to the carnival events, Summerfest is hosting a baseball tournament at Morgan Field and the NOC Jackpot Sheep show at Whitmann Arena.

Then once the sunsets, artists will hit the stage. Robertson said Courtney Sue Irwin is the first to take the spotlight tonight at 7:30. Then Steve Brack is opening for Moe Bandy starting at 7 on Friday, and to end Summerfest Shawna Russell is opening for Ronny Cox Saturday night at 7.

“ Come out for the evening," Robertson said. " The weather is going to work for us fantastic. Free entertainment, bring your chairs and perhaps a blanket to sit on, and just enjoy the evening.”

The festivities start at 4 p.m. today and tomorrow at the Blackwell Fairgrounds. Then the fairgrounds open earlier at 11 on Saturday.
