OSBI closes window in lobby of Headquarters in Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – In response to Gov. Kevin Stitt’s Executive Order 2020-08 encouraging all Oklahomans to follow the guidance of the CDC in regards to COVID-19 precautions, OSBI Director Ricky Adams is closing the window in the lobby at Headquarters in Oklahoma City.

This will impact “in person” Criminal History requests and SDA application and/or renewal submissions. However, these functions will continue unaffected online.

Oklahomans may request their criminal history online through the Criminal History Information Request Portal (CHIRP). It is free to set up an account at [email protected]. The cost of an online background check is the same as it is in person, $15. There is a $1 service charge. All you need is an email and the results are delivered electronically within minutes.

Additionally, Oklahomans can apply for an initial SDA license or renew their handgun license online at osbi.ok.gov/handgun-licensing. On that web page, you will find instructions for applying online as well as the web link to track the status of your application online. If you prefer to mail in your application, you can also print the application from that web page.

Again, all criminal history checks and SDA applications will continue to be processed as normal. The only change is that the OSBI lobby window at Headquarters will not be open to the public.

As a reminder, Director Adams has also suspended public fingerprinting at Headquarters in Oklahoma City. This is out of an abundance of caution for our employees and the public.

Please refer to our web site at osbi.ok.gov to find out what services we provide online. We encourage you to call before you visit any of our facilities to see if we can assist you virtually.

Director Adams also stresses that OSBI operations will function without interruption, and our agents will continue their investigations including accepting new requests from law enforcement agencies.
