MOORE, Okla. (AP) — An Oklahoma high school student who was among three people to survive a hit-and-run that killed three of his friends says that his fellow cross-country runners helped save his life.

Joseph White and others with the Moore High School cross-county team were jogging on the sidewalk near campus last month when a pickup truck hit the six students. White tells KWTV in Oklahoma City that he doesn’t think he would be alive if his teammates hadn’t rushed over to help him.

The driver of the truck, 57-year-old Max Leroy Townsend, is charged with manslaughter.
