Tribal leaders reject Stitt’s short-term extension plan

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Tribal leaders in Oklahoma have rejected Gov. Kevin Stitt’s offer to extend the existing gambling compacts for another eight months.

Stitt this week proposed the extension while the two sides are locked in a dispute over the compacts. Flanked by leaders from 32 separate tribal nations on Thursday, Oklahoma Indian Gaming Association Chairman Matt Morgan says the tribes were united in their opposition to the extension.

Stitt claims that the 15-year gambling compacts expire on January 1st. The tribes maintain that all the requirements have been met for the compacts to automatically renew for another 15 years.
