The Heather Cannon Wildcat of the Week is Po-Hi senior J.P. Mays.

Superintendent Shelley Arrott stated, “J.P. is easily recognized at Po-Hi simply because he is that kid who is always smiling and good-humored! Not only is he fun to be around, but he is super respectful and very personable to his peers and to adults.

“In fact, J.P. just finished his senior season of Wildcat football, and Coach Harmon said he is a great mentor to the younger classman on the team because he always tries to help them improve and works hard to keep everyone motivated. Coach also told me he never had to worry about J.P.’s work ethic because he was a good hustler, not only in games, but in practice as well,” Arrott said.

In addition to playing football, J.P. enjoys acting at the Ponca Playhouse, spending time with his family and friends, and playing video games. He has great attendance and focuses on his school work, which is evident by his solid grades. He attends Pioneer Technology Center in the mornings before coming to the high school and is involved in the Construction Technology Program.

“I asked him if he wanted to go into the construction field upon graduation, and he said he just wanted to learn that lifelong skill,” Arrott said. “Whatever J.P. chooses to do in the future, I know he will be successful!”

“We are all proud of J.P.’s drive, positive attitude, and the leadership he exhibits. Thank you for striving to live the Wildcat Way!”

The Wildcat of the Week receives a Wildcat of the Week T-shirt, a Wildcat window sticker, and a coupon for a delicious burger basket from Ground Round.
