Katie Parr has been named the new Po-Hi Stepper Coach, pending approval from the board of education. Katie will replace longtime coach Kristin Smith, who is retiring.
“I am so excited that Katie Parr will be taking over the team for me. She is going to do an outstanding job and will carry on the Po Hi-Stepper tradition,” said Kristin. “What an absolute dream it is to be able to hand off my legacy to my niece. I know the team is in very capable hands. Ponca City, be ready for amazing things from this young lady and her future teams.”
“I am beyond excited to be the new coach of the Po Hi-Steppers! This team holds a special place in my heart, and stepping into this role is truly a dream come true,” said Katie. “The Po Hi-Steppers have a long-standing tradition of excellence and I know I have big shoes to fill. However, I am truly grateful for the opportunity and eager to continue building on the legacy of this incredible program.”
Katie is a Po-Hi graduate and served as a four-year member of the Hi-Steppers. She also served as Captain and earned awards in Hi-Stepping: National Kick Company, All American Dance, Dance Company, Camp Miss High Kick and Team National Champion.
She graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 2022. She will receive an MBA from OSU in May. She currently serves as an academic advisor at OSU.
PCPS Superintendent Adam Leaming said, “Coach Parr brings an incredible background in Hi-Stepping and dance, having excelled both in high school and at the collegiate level, where she honed her skills, discipline, and passion for performance. Her experience provides an outstanding foundation to elevate our Hi-Stepper program, inspire our student-athletes, and create an environment where our girls can grow, compete, and shine on and off the floor.”
“We can’t wait to see the energy, creativity, and leadership she brings to our team. Please join us in welcoming Coach Parr to the Wildcat family!”
