The Ponca City East Middle School Orchestra earned two superior ratings and one excellent rating (resulting in an overall superior rating) and a superior rating in sight-reading Tuesday afternoon at the OSSAA District Orchestra Contest held at Edmond Santa Fe High School. Since the orchestra received superior ratings in both the stage performance and in sight reading, the group has earned the Outstanding Achievement Award. This award is the highest honor that can be earned by a group at this contest. The group performed “Sinfonia in A Minor” by Telemann, arranged by Bob Mathews, and “Contredanse” by Larry Clark.
Director Katie Hauge would like to thank all of the students for their hard work. “Our students worked incredibly hard to prepare for contest today, especially with missing some rehearsals for the winter weather we had. I am so proud of their performance today!,” she said.
A special thank you also goes to Paula Cochran, Susan Clothier, and Cassidy Broome for their help in preparing the group for contest. And another special thank you to Rhonda McCormick and Chad Keilman for driving the buses today.
Please join us for our Orchestras In Review Concert on Tuesday, March 11th. This concert will feature the 5th – 8th grade orchestras, Philharmonic Orchestra, and Symphony Orchestra. All orchestra concerts start at 7:00 and are free to the public.
